Under the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Punjab government to make the state 'Rangla Punjab' again, a big step was taken today by the Sangrur administration under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal to curb drugs and stubble burning menace. More than 55,000 students of 276 upper primary schools of Sangrur district took an oath to stand firm against the use of drugs and the burning of crop residual in the fields under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal and SSP Surendra Lamba,.

Speaking during the event organized to sensitise the students at Government Meritorious School Ghabadan, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal said that under the instructions of the Punjab Government, the officials of the administrative and police departments worked day and night to eradicate drugs from Sangrur district. He said that along with this, all possible efforts were being made to curb the malpractice of burning crop residual in the fields. 

He said that awareness activities were also being done on a large scale to eradicate these social problems. He said that the main purpose of connecting school students with this awareness campaign was to disseminate this message to every home that every section of the society needs to cooperate with the administration to prevent drug abuse and stubble burning.

DC Jitendra Jorwal said that besides administering the oath today, painting and poster making competitions were also organised in schools on the issues of drug addiction and stubble burning. He said that apart from giving rewards to the winners, their selected artworks will also be exhibited at various prominent places in the district.

Deputy Commissioner said that while the police has been working diligently to stop drug addiction, the district administration was also providing free treatment facilities in de-addiction centers and rehabilitation centers to bring the drug addicts back into the mainstream of society. He said that in the same way, in order to prevent stubble burning, the farmers were also being provided with the necessary machinery on a subsidized basis in addition to suggesting methods of its proper management. 

He said that for the creation of a healthy society, it was very important to protect the youth from drugs and the environment from straw smoke and the students will definitely convey this message to their parents. On this occasion SSP Surendra Lamba said that the Sangrur Police has continuously been providing necessary help to prevent drug trafficking and also to evacuate the people trapped in the swamp of drugs. 

He said that for the complete eradication of drug addiction, there was a great need for people's cooperation so that it could be stopped at all levels. He said that if any person wants to share any information against drugs or need any help to quit drugs, he could contact Sangrur Police helpline number 80 54 112 112. 

He assured that the address of every person contacting this number will be kept confidential and the necessary help will be provided to him for sure.

On this occasion, besides others, Assistant Commissioner Jaspinder Singh, District Education Officer Sanjeev Sharma, Deputy DEO Preetinder Ghai, Principal Meritorious School Dr. M. M. Sharma and a large number of school students were also present.
