Punjab Director General of Police (DGP),  Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday directed all the Police Personnel on field duties to be more accessible to the common public and build a connection with them to ensure citizen-friendly policing.

"Be available in Police stations to meet people and Pick their calls to listen to their issues calmly and resolve them," he asked them, while stressing on the need to build public trust, which will eventually help developing sources to identify bad elements in society. Any anti-social element should not be spared at any cost, he reiterated.

The DGP was on his second round of field visit after a fortnight to hold a crime review meeting with IGsP of ranges, SSPs, Gazetted Officers and SHOs of the remaining four Police ranges. He has covered four Police ranges including Ferozepur, Faridkot, Bathinda and Patiala.

He said that each Police Personnel will be allocated one village and the latter will work as the eyes and ears for that village.DGP Gaurav Yadav has also ordered all the CPs/SSPs to work in coordination with special units to eliminate gangster culture and drugs from the state as envisioned by the CM Bhagwant Mann.

As 50% of the police force in the field has already deployed in Police Stations after withdrawing them from non-core duties as a result of previous crime-review meeting, he stressed on the need to further strengthen the Police Stations and revive the basic policing.

He also proposed to deploy at least one Quick Reaction Team (QRT) and 2 Armed Reserves per district having highly trained and well equipped Police Personnel trained on the lines of Special Operations Group (SOG) by ADGP SOG to deal with emergent situations.

He also directed IGs and SSPs to divide Police Station areas in beats and one beat officer should be dedicated in each beat area so that Accountability of the police officer for specific areas should be fixed. He also asked them to direct SHOs to open history sheets of bad characters and list them out to keep vigil on their activities.

He asked SHOs to personally investigate the cases of major heinous crimes. With Independence Day around the corner, DGP Gaurav Yadav asked the CPs/SSPs to be alert and prepared to tackle any challenge besides ordering them to keep vigil at all the sensitive places.

He also directed District Police Chiefs to hold monthly crime review meetings at district level and revive the Monday Parade and hold orderly rooms to listen to the grievances of the Police Personnel. He also asked them to motivate people to install CCTV cameras in public areas such as Markets, Religious Places, private property etc.

Reiterating the firm commitment of CM Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government to make Punjab a corruption-free state, DGP Gaurav Yadav also warned all the Police Officers and Officials that black sheeps in the uniform will not be tolerated and if anyone found indulged in any kind of malpractices will be dealt with heavy hand.

Meanwhile, the DGP also stressed on the need to revive Physical briefing of the force at police stations, keeping records at Police Stations updated, taking preventive actions under sections 107, 109 and 110 of the CrPC where it is warranted.
