Punjab Water Supply & Sanitation Minister Brahm Shankar Jimpa has said that the State Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would ensure availability of potable water in all villages of Punjab with the completion of ‘Village Action Plan’ within next two months.

In a statement issued here, the Minister said that all the 12000 villages would be covered under the Village Action Plan (VAP), which further ensured water supply connections to 100 percent households, laying of water supply pipes in new localities/areas, strengthening of water resources and meticulous execution of Swach Bharat Mission (Gramin).

Jimpa said that more than 700 engineers including social field staff was being imparted training on war footing to accomplish the given task within the set timeline, which was being monitored on daily basis by the Sub Divisional Engineers and Executive Engineers.

The sole motive of training is to get the VAP prepared by launching a contact drive in rural areas.Under the Jal Jiwan Mission all the households and common places in the villages of Punjab tap water is being provided, said the Minister adding that the necessary instruction in this regard to cover each and every household in the rural areas had already been given to the official of the department.

He said that a detailed plan was also being contemplated to fulfill all water related needs of present and future time by strengthening the stability of water resources. The Minister said VAP would also ensure reforms in water supply schemes, extending the time limit for water supply besides improving the quality of water.

Notably, the training of engineers and other staff was being carried under the supervision of Principal Secretary of Water Supply & Sanitation Department D.K. Tiwari so that this task could be accomplished within two months. The VAP will provide tap water connection to every house in the villages so that potable water can be provided to the families.
