Punjab Government approves various road projects worth Rs. 315 crore

The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, would start various projects during the year 2022-23 under NABARD (28) scheme at a cost of Rs. 315 crore. Under this scheme new roads and new bridges would be constructed in the state, which would improve the road network of the state.

Punjab Public Works Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO held a review meeting with Principal Secretary Public Works Mr. Anurag Verma, Secretary Public Works Mr. Malwinder Singh Jaggi, CE PWD Mr. Arun Kumar and other senior officials here today. After the meeting the Minister said that the construction work will be started soon by soliciting bids for the works.

Disclosing this, the PWD Minister said that 2217 km of link roads falls under the department to  be repaired in current year, which were last repaired on or before March 31, 2016 and were not approved under any scheme thereafter. A proposal to repair at an estimated cost of Rs. 361 Crore is under consideration of the Punjab Government. 

He said that after getting the administrative approval of the Punjab Mandi Board, the nodal agency for link roads, the repair work of these roads would be started soon.The Cabinet Minister said that by March 31, 2022, the repair work on 4644.26 km length roads has been completed at a cost of Rs.574 crore. 

He said that the sanctioned outstanding work of 4800.66 km length under these projects is targeted to be completed by the year 2022 at an estimated cost of Rs. 757 crore.The Minister further said that the Punjab Government was committed to the overall development of the state. He said that the state government would work in the public interest with utmost sincerity.
