A day after four former ministers joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chandigarh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday termed the switchovers as 'opportunistic' and 'venal leaders', who joined the saffron party to evade inquiries against them by the government

Addressing a press conference, AAP chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang, said that the BJP has taken “trash” of Congress and it has yet again exposed the double standards of the party.

Former Congress ministers Raj Kumar Verka, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Gurpreet Singh Kangar and Sunder Sham Arora joined the saffron fold in the presence of state BJP president Ashwani Sharma yesterday.

Lambasting the BJP party, he said it is extremely condemnable that those Congressi leaders were behind annihilating the future of Punjab by allegedly patronising the drug mafia and sand mafia in the state, were wholeheartedly welcomed by BJP for their political gain.

Kang categorically said that "dastardly" leaders will not be spared by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government and they would be taken to task for treachery with the people of Punjab after throughout investigations.

He said that former health minister Balbir Sidhu was blamed for alleged corruption in the award of contracts for COVID-19 kits to private firms. Likewise, Arora, Kangar and Verka were too faced with corruption allegations being as Congress ministers.

He further said that Verka even once called Prime Minister Narendra Modi anti-Dalit and anti-farmer for attempting to weaken Punjab.

These ex-Congress leaders have been facing corruption allegations and reportedly embroiled in various irregularities during their tenure as Congress ministers and BJP too had blamed these turncoats for spoiling the future of Punjab, Kang added.

Questioning the Union Minister Amit Shah, Kang asked him to clarify that has now these leaders become veracious and trustworthy for BJP, a day after joining the saffron party.

Reiterating his government’s dogged commitment, Kang said that AAP will not stop working for the welfare of Punjab and those involved in corruption and anti-Punjab activities will not be spared at any cost.
