Under the 'Pan India Awareness and Outreach Program', the District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar is conducting a campaign to make the residents of District Rupnagar aware of their legal rights. Under this campaign legal awareness programs were conducted today in village Bheora, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy and village Malikpur in which Mr. Arun Gupta, Member Secretary and Dr. Mandeep Mittal, Additional Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority attended the function in large numbers, spoke to the people about the free legal services and reviewed the entire awareness campaign.Mrs. Harpreet Kaur Jeevan, District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Rupnagar welcomed the Member Secretary. Addressing the gathering, all the judges said that members of Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes, women, children, the mentally ill / disabled, the unemployed, industrial workers, persons in custody, prisoners / detainees in jails and any person who has an annual income of less than Rs 3 lakh, is entitled to free legal aid. He further said that in the case of free legal aid, the expenses incurred on free services of lawyers in the courts, free legal advice, court fees, summons fees and witnesses etc. would be reimbursed by the District Legal Services Authority. He also elaborated on the relief to be provided to the people under the Victim Compensation Scheme. Apart from this in the program conducted at Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy and village Bheora, Mr. Arun Gupta informed about the facilities provided to the villagers under the Legal Services Authority Act and the relief provided to the general public under the Victim Compensation Scheme. Provision has been made for compensation to the victims, in which the amount of compensation is paid to the victim within 15 days.Apart from this Mr. Mandeep Mittal, Additional Member Secretary, Legal Services Authority also apprised the general public that if a person dies in an accident or a person becomes disabled in an accident, a fine of up to Rs. 2 Lakhs provision for assistance. In addition, he made the general public aware of their legal rights. He encouraged the children of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy to acquire maximum knowledge and be aware of their rights and responsibilities and move forward in life. He met District and Sessions Judge, Rupnagar, other Judges and also visited ADR Center, Rupnagar. These awareness programmes include Mr. Manav, CJM, Mrs. Ishan Chaudhary, BDPO, Rupnagar, Mr. Sukhjinder Singh, Director of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy, Mr. Rajan Chopra, Principal, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Academy, Mr. Ashish Kumar, Advocate, Mrs. Jaspinder Kaur, Advocate etc. also joined.
