On the last day of Fire Safety Week, Mohali Municipal Corporation Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu visited the Fire Brigade Office at Phase 1 and inspected the fire extinguishers. Corporation Commissioner Kamal Garg and Deputy Mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi were also present on the occasion.Mock drills were also conducted by the fire brigade staff in which the staff also demonstrated the use of fire extinguishers. The fire officer provided information on all types of machinery and fire brigade vehicles present in the brigade office.Assistant Divisional Fire Officer Mohan Lal Verma while briefing to Mayor Jeeti Sidhu said that Mohali is the only fire brigade in the whole of Punjab where High Sky Lift is available. This machine can extinguish building fires up to a height of 54 meters and evacuate people from the building. There is a rescue fire tender that can be used for rescue operations. A pneumatic jack is also available at Mohali Fire Brigade which is used to lift fallen lantern etc. of a building which can carry a weight of up to 10 tons. There are also suitable tools for evacuating people trapped under the collapsed building, including cutting tools for breaking iron grills and breaking tools for beams. Fire motorcycles are used to reach narrow spaces. The most important machinery is that the Mohali Fire Brigade has an ultra high pressure jeep equipped with foam and water to put out the fire on a moving vehicle. He said that the office of the brigade was fully equipped but there was a shortage of staff which should be met.Mayor Jeeti Sidhu after getting complete information about the work and equipment of the staff of the brigade, expressed his satisfaction and said that this office has all kinds of fire extinguishers. He said that immediate steps would be taken to address the staff shortage in the fire brigade office.Councilor Kanwaljit Singh Banni, Raja Kanwarjot Singh Mohali, Victor Sabharwal etc. were also present on the occasion.
