World Water Day celebrated at Siswan Community Reserve with Cleanliness Drive

On the occasion of World Water Day, Ropar Division of Department of Forests and Wildlife organized a cleanliness drive at Siswan Community Reserve. Dr Monika Yadav, IFS, DFO wildlife said that areas near the water bodies like Siswan reservoir need to be clean as the garbage thrown around eventually travels into the water that not only contaminates the water but also impact the health of people and animals using that water. Despite the unexpected rain, more than hundred people participated in the drive who diligently and honestly made efforts to pick the garbage. Students from Khelshala participated in the drive and the drive covered the complete stretch near the Siswan reservoir. Khelshala also assured the department to participate in upcoming activities of good cause geld by the department.The team of Wildlife Division who were present at the event to assist and facilitate the participants were Sh. Mohan Singh, RO, Mohali, Sh. Satinderpal Singh, BO, Siswan, Sh. Maninder Kumar, RO, Siswan, Sh Ramzan Khan, RO, Siswan.Dr Monika Yadav, IFS, DFO Wildlife, said that the quantity of garbage has increased manyfold not only on the roads but also the forest areas simply because we humans do not consider the open areas as our belonging and thus find it convenient to shrug off our responsibility of maintaining its cleanliness. She said that if we have the right on water for drinking and other uses, we should realise our duty towards valuing it. The department is planning to continue the efforts of cleaning the vicinity of the reservoir so that the villagers can be benefitted.
