PCB seizes 2.35 quintal banned polythene in Jammu, Poonch, violators penalized

Continuing its campaign against the use of banned polythene carry bags and single use disposable cutlery items, J&K PCB, District offices. Jammu North and Poonch carried out extensive raids in their respective areas.The drive was conducted under the supervision of Member Secretary J&K PCB,  B.M Sharma and Regional Director Jammu Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain on the directions of the Chairman J&K PCB,  Suresh Chugh.In Jammu District, a team comprising Arshad Nazir Malik, Divisional Officer, Jammu-North,  Dimple Sharma, F.I, Jaya Kapoor, F.I and  Darshan Lal S.A, raided several shops in Talab Tillo area and seized 120 kg of banned Polythene carry bags / single use plastic cutlery items. A fine of Rs. 14.000 was also realized from the defaulters.Similarly, raids were also conducted in Poonch City by a team comprising Bader Hussain, Divisional Officer Rajouri/Poonch and Nadeem Hussain Shah. Scientist and seized 115 kg banned polythene. A fine of Rs 3500 was also imposed on the defaulters.The PCB has intensified its drive against the use of banned polythene and disposable cutlery items and initiated the process of imposing  heavy fines  and penalties on the defaulters.  Since the imposition of lockdown, a total of 9922.30 kg polythene and 286.50 kg Single Use Plastic Disposable cutlery items were seized and a fine of Rs. 1.84 lakh realized as fine from the defaulters.The Board has also appealed to the general public to desist from accepting the goods from shopkeepers, hawkers or vegetable and fruit vendors etc. packed in banned polythene carry bags having thickness less than 50 microns, failing which they shall also be fined.
