On 74th Independence Day function to be held here at Police Lines Ground, the Corona Warriors including doctors, health workers, sanitation workers and others, who played a significant role to keep the COVID-19 under check, would be invited and honoured in recognition of their immense contribution in this tough time.Deputy Commissioner Apneet Riyait, while chairing a meeting of civil and police administration to take stock of preparations regarding I-Day function, said that keeping in view the COVID restrictions and precautionary measures, this time gathering would be limited and the function would be a low key affair in wake of the government guidelines.Riyait informed that the District level function would be presided over by Industry & Commerce Minister Sunder Sham Arora while at Sub Divisions level flags would be hoisted by the respective SDMs ensuring all measures. Likewise, the Panchayats and Sarpanches would also be included at Block Level function with strict adherence of health safety measures with low key functions.She said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had already issued detailed instructions in this regard, which would be strictly followed amid spike in COVID cases to contain the further spread of pandemic.In recognition to the exemplary services being ensured by doctors, health staff and sanitation workers besides officials of other departments as well as the NGOs, who had also extended noble services in the battle against COVID, would also be honoured after the due consideration of District Level Committee, said the Deputy Commissioner.The Deputy Commissioner said that the freedom fighters of Hoshiarpur district would be honoured at their respective homes this time by the district administration due to coronavirus.Referring to the MHA and State Government’s guidelines regarding I-Day function amid COVID, Riyait said that there would be no massive gathering on the said day as usual in previous years and only one contingent of Punjab Police would give salute. She also clarified that there would be no other activities like PT shows, cultural events, parades by NCC etc in order to maintain the said guidelines. She said that health & safety protocols including social distancing would also be ensured at District, Sub Divisions and Block level functions.Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Amit Kumar Panchal, SP (H) Parminder Singh Heer, SDM Hoshiapur Amit Mahajan and senior officers of various departments.
