Becoming corona warriors by extending healthcare services to the people in Government Hospitals especially during the lockdown period amid COVID-19 pandemic, the health officials have successfully conducted more than 4000 institutional deliveries till date. As many as 3979 deliveries were made in Government Hospitals between April and July 15, which has crossed the mark of 4000 now. Lauding the stupendous efforts being made by the Health Officers/officials, the Deputy Commissioners Apneet Riyait said that the utmost dedication and professional commitment shown by the said officers/officials in the tough time of COVID-19 was really commendable. As per the numbers of deliveries, in the month of April the Government Hospitals in the district witnessed 1070 deliveries followed by 1138 in May and 1185 in June. The number of such deliveries till July 15 was 586. She said that ASHA workers were also making concerted efforts to make aware the pregnant women about the COVID. According to directions, COVID test of pregnant women is also being ensured 10 days prior to their expected delivery, said the Deputy Commissioner adding that despite the COVID pandemic ASHA workers were ensuring timely vaccination to these women besides field visits in view of the delivery. On the ninth of every month, screenings of pregnant women are being done at Government Hospitals under Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, which was continuously going on despite COVID-19 restrictions.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed that a truenat machine has already been installed in the local Civil Hospital, which provides COVID report within two hours if there was an acute emergency, which would be helpful in an emergency case of delivery, if any. The Deputy Commissioner said that apart from looking after positive cases of COVID, the Health Department in hospitals of Hoshiarpur district were also facilitating the people with treatment of other diseases without any interruption. She also expressed immense satisfaction that now the trend of positive cases had come down and the numbers of negative cases in daily reports were increasing. She called upon the people to meticulously follow the health and safety directions given by the State Government time to time for containing the further spread of Corona virus. Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon Hoshiarpur Dr. Jasvir Singh pointed out that undoubtedly there was a huge pressure of patients in Government Hospitals due to COVID-19 but the healthcare services for expectant women were not suffered at all. He said that doctors, para-medic staff and ASHA workers were also ensuring best possible treatment in delivery cases to conduct safe and secure deliveries. He said that gyne wards in Government Hospitals were being properly sanitised for the safety of both mother and the infants from any sort of infection.
