Union Minister Babul Supriyo on Saturday said West Bengal "qualifies in all the parameters" for the President's Rule to be imposed here but claimed that his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not wish to come to power in the state with help of this."The recent incidents of constant violence and attack on the BJP workers across the state show that the law and order situation in Bengal is in a terrible shape and the state qualifies in all the parameters for President's Rule to be imposed. But the BJP does not want to come to power through this as people's support are already with us," Supriyo, the MP from the state's Asansol, said at a press conference at the state BJP headquarters here."It is said that if the President's Rule is imposed in any state, then the state's ruling party gets a lot of sympathy votes from people when a new election is held. But be rest assured that will not be the case for Mamata Banerjee government here. If President's Rule is imposed in Bengal by any chance, Mamata will not get any sympathy from people, rather her condition will be pathetic," he claimed.Referring to the clashes between police and the BJP's youth wing in Asansol on Friday, he accused the Trinamool Congress and state police of working together to attack and intimidate BJP workers across the state.

"All of you have seen the situation in Asansol yesterday centring BJP's protest demonstration demanding better civic services and stopping corruption. Our youth activists held a protest rally accompanied by the common people and wanted to submit a deputation to the chairman of the municipal corporation," the BJP leader said."The police played a hyper-active role in barricading the roads and securing the Asansol municipal corporation in a way as if an armed attack was planned by the BJP. They are working hand in hand with the Trinamool Congress leadership in conducting planned attack on our workers across the state," he alleged. He also claimed that Trinamool-backed miscreants were openly roaming around with firearms near the Asansol municipality before the clash on Friday.Supriyo, who defeated Trinamool's former MP and popular actress Moon Moon Sen in the 2019 polls, said the state's ruling party did not do any self-analysis after its heavy defeat but acted in a vengeful manner since the election results. He also accused the civic body in the area of not deliberately stopping several developmental projects in spite of sanctioning the money from his MPLAD fund.Members of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Friday clashed with the police after they laid siege to Asansol Municipal Corporation prompting the police to baton charge and lob tear gas shells at the protesters.A number of BJP activists reportedly sustained injury in the incident.
