Istri Akali Dal workers today braved police barricades as well as police personnel in an attempt to reach drug accused AAP leader of opposition Sukhpal Khaira’s residence even as they announced they would not let him enter the Vidhan Sabha in the forthcoming winter session in case he did not resign forthwith.Amid slogans of Avind Kejriwal murdabad and “Khaira da bhed khul gaya, chitta saara dul gaya” Istri Akali Dal workers led by its president Bibi Jagir Kaur tried to cross the barricades put up by the Chandigarh police when they were stopped after staging a march from the SAD head office here to Sukhpal Khaira’s residence. The women workers, who were holding placards with Khaira’s picture and the slogan “chitta da vyapari”, held a massive protest at the site and even staged a sit in to register their protest against the AAP leader.Addressing the large number of party workers at the site, Bibi Jagir Kaur said after the honorable high court had rejected the revision petition of Khaira asking for setting aside of the lower court ruling summoning him as an accused in a trans border drug racket with Pakistani links the AAP leader had lost all moral and ethical right to continue in office. She appealed to Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana K P Singh to direct Khaira not to enter the Vidhan Sabha premises on November 27 when its winter session starts, saying this was necessary to save the august chair of leader of opposition from being besmirched.Bibi Jagir Kaur also asked AAP Convenor and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to come clean and tell Punjabis why he was shielding a drug accused whose accomplices had been awarded the maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment. She said in case Kejriwal did not remove Khaira from the post of leader of opposition and expel him from the primary membership of the party it would be assumed that he had also been compromised by Khaira and it would be proved that the party was receiving drug money as funding.Earlier a large number of Istri Akali Dal workers collected at the party head office here and staged a dharna against Khaira. The gathering was addressed among others by wing general secretary Bibi Manju Kureshi, vice president Bibi Rani Dhaliwal, Ludhiana district president Bibi Surinder Kaur Dyal, Sangrur district president Bibi Parmjit Kaur Virk and Hoshiarpur district president Bibi Sukhdev Kaur Sallah. The speakers said AAP had made drugs a prime issue in the last assembly elections and now when it had been proved that Khaira was the king pin of the drug trade in Punjab it was incumbent on the part of the party to take action against him.
