The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the friendly commission of Justice J S Narang, which had been appointed to give a clean chit to Irrigation and Power minister Rana Gurjit Singh in the multi crore mining scam, could only be expected to do the job for which it had been hired. “We don’t expect Justice Narang to break any new ground in the inquiry into the irregularities in sand mining auctions in Punjab”, former minister and SAD spokesperson Maheshinder Singh Grewal said here today while reacting to submission of a report in this connection by Justice Narang to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh.Mr Grewal said “a tailor made commission was made to give a clean chit to the minister. The chief minister himself made a public statement that there was nothing in the case and that the Commission report would prove that. Even the terms of the commission were also set in such a manner that no irregularity could be traced back to Rana Gurjit”. The Akali leader said the submission of the report today was a mere drama. He said if the government was serious about holding a fair inquiry into the same mining scam it would have removed Justice Narang as the inquiry officer immediately after his close links with Rana Gurjit were brought to its notice. “The government however shut its eye to everything. This indicates it was hell bent on securing a clean chit for Rana Gurjit. This seems to have been achieved today”, he added.
