Independent candidate from Sannaur, Lakhwinder Singh today joined the BJP. Withdrawing from the fray, Lakhwinder entered the BJP fold in the presence of Senior BJP leader and party’s Punjab affairs incharge Prabhat Jha. Lakhwinder said, “I’ve been in the Congress for the past 40 years and have sacrificed my entire life for the party but the party overlooked my hard work. Hence I decided to contest as an independent. But the fact is that ever since Narendra Modi has become the Prime Minister, I have been an admirer of his style of working and his decision-making ability. That is why I have decided to join the BJP”. Thanking Prabhat Jha, Lakwhinder Singh said that he would work under his and state party president, Vijay Sampla’s guidance as a simple worker of the party. After joining the BJP, Lakhwinder Singh announced that he would vigourously campaign for the coalition candidate from Sannaur- Harinderpar Singh Chandumajra. “I appeal to all my supporters that keeping in mind the peace and harmony in the state, they vote for Chandumajra”, he said. It is to be noted that Lakhwinder Singh has been the chairman of two corporations and also the general secretary of the Punjab Congress.
