Punjab Government to celebrate 50th anniversary of Punjab Suba formation on a high note. In a high level meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Rajya Sabha Member and Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab at Punjab Bhawan today, organizing committees of various departments have been directed to chalk out the plan and modalities of events for the celebrations.In a press communiqué, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that Punjab to attain 50 years of its formation on 1st November 2016 and the state government is planning to celebrate this day on large scale by ensuring the participation of all Punjabis in these celebrations. He said that Punjabis had given great sacrifices for the formation of Punjab Suba. He informed that the state level function would be held on 1st November, while in the months of September and October events would also be held in the different cities, towns and villages of the state. He said that every Punjabi residing in country or abroad, who had contributed in the struggle for the formation of Punjabi Suba, would be specially invited for the celebrations and honoured.

Education Minister Dr. Cheema said that during these celebrations, children and youth would be sensitized about the rich Punjabi heritage and culture, mother-tongue, Punjabi Literature and several laurels by Punjabis in different walks of life. He said that Education Department will hold functions from mid September to October in every district of the state besides conducting traditional sports, speech contests, folk dance & folk instruments competitions, handwriting competitions, dress exhibition, heritage fairs, quiz and seminars on the theme of the Punjabi Suba. He said that a book on achievements of Punjabis in various fields and Modern Punjab will also be published.

Singh, Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Mr. Pradeep Aggarwal , Director General School Education, Mrs. Rupanjali Karthik, Additional Secretary (Grievances redressal), Mr. Balbir Singh Dhol, DPI (Secondary Education), Mr. Puran Chand, Deputy Director, Rural Development and Panchayats, Mrs. Sadhana Sagar, Joint Director, DPI Colleges, Mr. M.S. Kang, Program Manager, Social Security and Women & Child Development, Mr. K.L. Malohatara, FCS, Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Mr. Mewa Singh, Deputy Director (Physical Education) Dr. Ginni Duggal, Deputy Director, SCERT.
