The flag of the 3rd Asian Relays Championships 2027 was today presented to the Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, at the UT Secretariat. The flag was formally handed over to Chandigarh during the closing ceremony of the 2nd Asian Relays Championships 2026 held at Shaoxing, China.

It was brought to Chandigarh by Shri Sorabh Kumar Arora, Director Sports, UT Chandigarh Administration, who represented Chandigarh Administration at the championship. Among those present on the occasion were Chief Secretary, UT Chandigarh, Shri H. Rajesh Prasad; Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor of Punjab, Shri Vivek Pratap Singh; Sports Secretary, Ms. Prerna Puri; members of the Athletics Federation of India; representatives of Chandigarh Athletics Association and other senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration.

Speaking on the occasion, the Administrator described it as a proud milestone for Chandigarh and said the city was honoured to host the next edition of the prestigious continental championship. He stated that it would be the biggest international sporting event to be hosted in Chandigarh since 1989 Asian Rowing Championships and would further establish the city as an emerging hub for international sports.

The Administrator informed that the championships will be held at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, which will be upgraded to International standards. He said the Administration is working in close coordination with all stakeholders and is taking all necessary measures to ensure world-class sporting infrastructure, security arrangements and seamless event management.

Shri Kataria said that hosting an International championship of this stature would inspire young sportspersons, encourage greater participation in athletics and provide local athletes with an opportunity to witness top relay teams from across Asia. He added that the event would also boost tourism and showcase the rich culture and heritage of Chandigarh, Punjab and Haryana before an international audience.

The Asian Relays Championships is a prestigious continental competition organised by the Asian Athletics Association, bringing together leading relay teams from across Asia in men’s, women’s and mixed relay events, including the 4×100m and 4×400m races.
