Under Mission Jeevni, a Maternal Death Review meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Mr Himanshu Jain, to review all maternal deaths reported in the district during the months of April and May. Each case was examined in detail to identify gaps in service delivery and fix accountability.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that saving the lives of mothers is a shared responsibility of the public, doctors, and hospitals. No laxity in the provision of maternal healthcare services will be tolerated, and responsibilities will be fixed wherever negligence is established.

Any lapses identified during the review were viewed seriously, and the concerned officials and healthcare providers were held accountable. It was further directed that if a pregnant patient is under the care of a specialist, such as an MD or any doctor with higher qualifications, the patient’s management should not subsequently be handed over to a doctor with lower qualifications without proper authorization and sound clinical justification.

Continuity of appropriate specialist care must be ensured to prevent avoidable maternal deaths. The Deputy Commissioner reiterated that the primary objective of Mission Jeevni is to achieve zero preventable maternal deaths in Ludhiana district, and all stakeholders must work with dedication and accountability towards this goal.

On the occasion, volunteers working under Mission Jeevni were also felicitated by Deputy Commissioner Jain for their continued efforts, commitment, and valuable contribution towards strengthening maternal healthcare services and supporting pregnant women across the district.

The district administration, reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring quality maternal healthcare and making every possible effort to safeguard the lives of mothers and eliminate preventable maternal deaths in Ludhiana district.
