Punjab’s former Deputy Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the recent deaths caused by drug overdoses in the state. Becoming emotional over the continuous deaths of young people, Randhawa questioned how many more sons Punjab would lose.
“Who will save Punjab’s youth?” he asked. He said it is painful that four funerals had to be conducted within 48 hours. He stressed that there should be accountability, not politics, over the deaths of young people who have lost their lives due to drugs.
Randhawa said that four tragic deaths due to drugs within just 48 hours are not only heartbreaking but also a serious proof of the current government’s failure in its fight against drugs. These incidents are not isolated cases; they expose the ground reality of the government’s “War Against Drugs” campaign, which is completely opposite to its grand claims.
He warned that if the present “deaf and mute” AAP government does not take immediate action, history will remember this period as one in which an entire generation was failed and lost. Punjab’s youth are not just statistics; they are the foundation of our future.
Every single death reflects a collective failure of the system, and the present government must take full responsibility for the worsening situation. Randhawa questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over the total number of drug-related deaths in the last six months and asked why these figures have not been made public.
He said this is not just about statistics but about the daily loss of precious lives. The Aam Aadmi Party government came to power promising a decisive war against drugs. Today, the people of Punjab are asking: where is that war? If this is a “war,” why are our youth still dying?
Why are drug networks operating openly? Why is there no accountability? Instead of prioritizing Punjab’s most serious crisis, leadership appears to be engaged elsewhere, forcing families to pay the heavy price of negligence. Governance cannot be limited to publicity and statements; people want results, not promises.
The government must answer why law enforcement agencies have failed to break the backbone of the drug mafia. Who is protecting these networks? Why has no strong and effective campaign been launched that shows visible ground-level change? This continued silence and inaction is deeply concerning.
Randhawa urged the Chief Minister to rise above political display and understand the seriousness of the issue. He assured the people of Punjab that he, along with the Congress party, will continue to raise this issue on every platform and will keep holding the government accountable until concrete and lasting action is taken.
