Under the ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to make the state drug-free, action against drug traffickers is being carried out on a war footing. As per the directions of SSP, Sartaj Singh Chahal, and under the supervision of S.P. (PBI) Navreet Singh Virk, the administration demolished an illegal house constructed by drug traffickers in Indira Basti, Sunam, which had been declared illegal by the civil administration.

This marks the 32nd such illegal construction built from the proceeds of drug trafficking that has been demolished in the district. On this occasion, S.P., Virk stated that under the War Against Drugs campaign, 783 cases have been registered so far in District Sangrur, and 1170 accused have been arrested.

Among these, 43 cases and 82 accused are linked to the commercial quantity of drugs. As part of the same drive, nine properties worth approximately ₹3.63 crore have also been confiscated. The illegal house demolished in Indira Basti belonged to a family against whom 16 cases have been registered. 03 NDPS Act cases are registered against accused Kulbir Singh, 03 NDPS Act cases against his father Dulla Singh, and 07 NDPS Act cases along with 03 Excise Act cases against Kulbir Singh’s wife, Baljinder Kaur.

S.P., Virk said that the Punjab Government has adopted a policy of zero tolerance towards drugs, and strict action is being taken against drug traffickers. He appealed to the youth who wish to quit drugs and lead a better life to come forward, assuring that the Punjab Government is providing all possible assistance. Government de-addiction and rehabilitation centres in the district are fully operational for this purpose.

Issuing a stern warning to drug traffickers, S.P., Virk said that they must stop selling drugs immediately, otherwise similar strict action will be taken against them. He added that drug peddlers have derailed the youth of the state, and the Punjab Government is fully committed to saving the younger generation.

The ‘War Against Drugs’ campaign will continue uninterrupted, and no person involved in drug trafficking will be spared under any circumstances. On this occasion, D.S.P. Harvinder Singh Khaira, officials from various departments, and a large number of police personnel were present.
