Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu termed the new notification expanding the limits of the Mohali Municipal Corporation as a victory of the people. He said that with the inclusion of these areas under the Municipal Corporation, residents will now begin receiving standard public health facilities, which will significantly improve their quality of life.

Addressing a large gathering that arrived today at the Phase-1 office to thank him, Mr. Sidhu said that this development is a defeat for those individuals who, driven by personal interests, had for a long time prevented the implementation of the resolution to expand the Corporation’s limits. He said that even when the intervention of the Punjab and Haryana High Court made it mandatory for the Punjab Government to act on this, the notification issued in place of the 2021 resolution of the Corporation deliberately left out key areas such as Badmajra, Balongi, and TDI.

The Congress leader said that seeing the anger and dissatisfaction among the people, the government was compelled to issue a new notification. However, the village of Badmajra has still been kept out, and legal proceedings will continue to bring it under the Corporation’s jurisdiction. He added that the newly included areas will benefit from standard civic amenities such as sewerage, water supply, and electricity, which will not only raise the living standards of residents but also protect them from the exploitation and harassment they faced at the hands of private developers.

Mr. Sidhu also said that Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu of Mohali Municipal Corporation deserves congratulations, as it was under his leadership that resolutions were passed and sent both in 2021 and again in 2025, compelling the Punjab Government to act. Congratulating the gathered residents on this victory, he assured them that he will continue to fight for their interests just as he always has.
