Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma today chaired a meeting of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to review the progress and activities carried out during the last financial year. The meeting discussed the implementation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

It was informed that the CWC has provided assistance to 23 victims under the POCSO Act, ensuring timely support and rehabilitation for the affected children. The Committee has also made significant strides in preventing child marriages, with 29 cases successfully stopped, besides rescuing and rehabilitating 17 children forced into child labour. 

Furthermore, 13 cases involving runaway or kidnapped children were resolved, ensuring that these children were safely reunited with their families. The placement of eligible children in Child Care Institutions (CCIs) was also highlighted, with 10 children successfully placed in appropriate care facilities.

Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma expressed his appreciation for the dedicated work of the CWC and emphasized the importance of continuous efforts in child protection. He directed the Committee to keep working towards the betterment of children's welfare, ensuring their safety, education and rehabilitation at all times. The meeting was attended by District Social Welfare Officer, Abdul Raheem and members of the Child Welfare Committee.
