Senior Punjab Congress leader and former Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu yesterday welcomed a large number of people from Mataur village into the Congress Party, who joined after becoming disillusioned with the policies and high-handedness of other parties. Addressing the gathering, Sidhu said that people are now fed up with the false promises of the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party.

Targeting the AAP government, Sidhu said that in the past three and a half years, the AAP has done nothing concrete for Punjab’s welfare. They showed dreams to people but in reality dashed their hopes. Issues such as unemployment, the electricity crisis, and the poor state of health services remain unresolved.

“They only know how to speak from stages and spend on advertisements, with no connection to the ground reality. People have now understood the truth, which is why they are joining the Congress in large numbers,” he said.

Sidhu further said that on one hand, the BJP is resorting to every possible method, including vote theft, to hold on to power across the country, which has cost them the trust of the people. On the other hand, in Punjab, AAP’s land pooling policy has created deep resentment among farmers and the common public — a subtle ploy to grab their valuable land. Massive protests are taking place across Punjab against this policy.

“These situations are a threat to our democracy and are leading people towards the party of genuine development. The Congress Party stands firmly to protect the rights of people in every corner of Punjab,” he said.

Among those stepping onto this new path were Sikhs, Hindus, and people from other communities, all participating with great enthusiasm. This clearly shows that people are tired of AAP and moving towards Congress. People now realize that only the Congress can save democracy.

Injecting fresh energy, Sidhu said, “The Congress Party has always been a symbol of democracy and development. We wholeheartedly welcome every new colleague.” He added that this is not just political defection, but the true voice of the people — a voice that now expects results, not theatrics.

He asserted that in 2027, Congress will certainly win in Punjab and that the party is bringing plans for new development works — cleanliness drives, road repairs, training centers for youth, and new measures for women’s safety. Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu also said, “This is just the beginning. People have understood the reality of AAP and are now placing their trust in the policies of Congress.”

The joining took place under the leadership of former Health Minister Sardar Balbir Singh Sidhu and Municipal Mayor Sardar Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu. Prominent among those who joined the Congress were Gurtej Singh Teji, Ravi Arora, Baljit Singh Bhola, Gurkaran Singh Gaggi, Paramjit Singh Pamma, Gurmeet Singh Meetha, Ravi Dheeman, Sumit Kumar Bittu, Ravi Sood, Satvinder Singh Golu, Vijender Kumar, Ishaq Khan, Deepak Kumar, Sukh Vaidwan, Gurdeep Singh Vaidwan, Balwinder Singh Vaidwan, Rajeev Verma, Malkit Singh, Jasbir Singh Happy, Jatinder Vaidwan, Rukum Kumar Sharma, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Mani, Ajay Verma, Sahil Kumar, and others.

Senior Congress leaders and former Chairman Shri Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhlikalan, Sarpanch Amrik Singh, Dr. Jagir Singh, Malkit Singh Mataur, Karamjit Singh Lala, Hansraj Verma, wrestler Lakhbir Singh, Makhan Singh, Baljinder Singh Pappu, Dilbar Khan, Nirmail Singh, Darbara Singh, Khan Bakerywala, and Ravinder Singh Chhota were also present on the occasion.
