State Task force (STF) meeting was held under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary to Government of Haryana, Health Department, Sudhir Rajpal to review the action taken on last meeting decisions and further steps to be taken for improvement in sex ratio in the state.
He directed all Senior Medical Officers (SMO) In-charge of CHC and Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHC) to be the focal point for activities to be undertaken for improvement in sex ratio. SMO in-charges of CHC and UPHC to be held responsible for decline in sex ratio of their area.
Data pertaining to women already having female child and going for IVF should be analyzed to rule out sex selection by the In vitro Fertilization (IVF) centers. Civil Surgeons to have a line list of all female BAMS/BHMS doctors doing private practices in the district to check illegal abortions by any one of them, and all D&C cases should be retro-tracked.
DGHS Haryana, Dr. Kuldeep Singh, briefed that in the last five years Sex Ratio of all villages has been compiled for targeted approach and Special Beti Bachao Beti Padhao camps were organized on 25th April, 2025 in 481 villages with sex ratio below 700.
Convenor State Task Force, Dr. Virender Yadav, while giving information said that reports from MTP Centers are being analyzed and any center doing MTP of pregnant woman having 2 live girl children will be monitored rigorously and their licenses would be cancelled if found violating provisions of MTP Act. Out of Total 1500 MTP Centres, registration of 384 MTP Centres has been cancelled.
Notices have been issued to 30 MTP Centres. In the last four months i.e. from January to April 2025, 28 raids have been conducted by the Health Department under PNDT Act. 1500 Kuan Pujan celebrations organised on birth of female children from 18th to 29th April, 2025 with the initiative of Women and Child Development, Department. Multipurpose Health Worker (MPHW)-Female of sub-centre, Hangola under Community Health Centre (CHC), Raipur Rani, Panchkula is suspended with immediate effect due to negligence in providing Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services.
Dr. Virender Yadav, further said that sale of MTP kits have been restricted to registered MTP Centers only by the State Drug Controller. FIRs filed against 17 online MTP Kits sellers and 02 unlicensed MTP Kit sellers. Raid was conducted by Drug Control Officer (DCO) Kaithal on April 29, 2025 with Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau (HSNCB) in the residential premises in Kaithal from where 5805 MTP kits were recovered.
An FIR has been registered in Police Station City Kaithal regarding the same. There is a declining trend in the sale of MTP Kits in Haryana. All the wards (area) in urban have been allocated to Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA)’s and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM)’s of Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHC’s)/Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandir (UAAM) for the purpose of data collection (male and female child births) and improvement in sex ratio.
62,000 pregnant women with 01 or more than 01 live female child have been identified, and these pregnant women are being informed via helpline number 104 of Health Department that female feticide is sin. ASHA as a ‘Saheli’ will be linked with the pregnant women and incentive of Rs. 1,000 has been proposed to be given to concerned ASHA by NHM Haryana for successful delivery of female child.
Retrospective tracking calls are being made to women who delivered male child after one or more live female children to find out any sex detection / sex selection activity.Director Health Services (DHS) and PNDT,Dr Simmi Verma, Representative from Police Department, Prosecution department, Women and Child Development (WCD) department and Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Officers/Officials of Pre Conception and Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act, Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) and Assisted Reproductive Technique (ART) Cell were also present in the meeting.
