In a poignant display of unity and compassion, Lovely Professional University (LPU) leadership, faculty, and students gathered to mourn and honour the victims of the recent terror attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The somber event underscored the institution’s unwavering commitment to national solidarity and peace. Leading the tribute were Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and Founder Chancellor of LPU; Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU; and Dr. Sanjay Modi, Pro Vice-Chancellor of LPU.

Together with hundreds of students, staff, and faculty members, they participated in a solemn candlelight march across the university campus, holding the national flag and offering prayers for the departed souls.

In his heartfelt address, Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal condemned the barbaric attack and expressed his profound condolences to the bereaved families. “This was a shameful, inhuman act. The perpetrators must face the severest consequences of the law,” he said.

“Such acts of terror not only bring immediate suffering but leave long-lasting scars on the soul of the region, especially in areas like Pahalgam where the economy is deeply intertwined with tourism.”

Dr. Mittal further emphasized the importance of national unity in the face of adversity. “India will not be broken by fear. It is in moments like these that we must stand taller, stronger, and more united,” he stated.

“Our hearts go out to the families of the victims, and we remain steadfast in our support for peace, justice, and the resilient spirit of our nation.” As candles flickered and silence enveloped the campus, the LPU community observed a two-minute silence in memory of the victims.

Through this tribute, LPU not only mourned the lives lost but also reinforced its ethos of compassion, unity, and national integrity. The university community reiterated its firm belief that the values of peace and coexistence must always triumph over hatred and division.
