SGPC Grants Scholarship To Three Sikh Students To Pursue Research In The University Of Cambridge

Jathedar Avtar Singh, President, Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) facilitated three students namely Manini Brar (Laws), Sanman Kaur Grewal (Criminology) and Angadjit Singh (Physics) who have got admissions in The University of Cambridge for the session 2013-14. These students will pursue research and have been granted scholarships jointly by the SGPC and Cambridge Common Wealth Trust, as per the Memorandum signed between the two in the year 2009.  The President while blessing the students stated that they have brought laurels to the Sikh Community by securing admission in one of the top Universities of the world. Jathedar Avtar Singh advised the selected students to follow Sikh values and Sikh tenets while studying in the University of Cambridge thereby propagating the Sikh Religion and Sikh Heritage in that country too. S. Dalmegh Singh, Secretary (Education), SGPC and Dr. Dharminder Singh Ubha, Director Education, SGPC also congratulated the selected students and said that the decision to grant Scholarship for Research has been possible with the dedication and unstinted efforts of Jathedar Avtar Singh, President, SGPC. This decision will be helpful in changing the future prospects of the Sikh Community.

It is worth motioning here that the research programme of these students will be funded by The SGPC and The Cambridge Common Wealth Trust who will share the entire expense. As per the M.O.U. between SGPC and The Cambridge Common Wealth Trust five students are sent for pursuing research to the University of Cambridge every year. The annual expense for each student is Approximately INR 25 Lakhs. At present three students are already pursuing research in University of Cambridge under this program. These students are Ms. Amandeep Kaur, (Ph.D in Mathematics, 2011), Mr. Rav Pratap Singh (Ph.D in Law) and Ms. Shinjini Singh (Ph.D in Development Studies, 2012). At this occasion the Principals of all SGPC Colleges and employees and officials of Directorate of Education were also present to bless the students.
