Striking a major blow to organized crime, Jalandhar Rural Police has arrested two hardcore criminals, including a father-son duo involved in multiple armed robberies, with the recovery of three sophisticated weapons and stolen property worth several lakhs, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet  Singh Khakh, here on Tuesday. 

The arrested accused have been identified as Raj Kumar son of Sucha Ram and his son Rajveer alias Rohit, both residents of Saidpur Jhiri, Police Station Shahkot, District Jalandhar. Police teams have recovered three pistols of 30 bore and 32 bore along with 25 live rounds, nine mobile phones, one smart watch, and gold ornaments weighing six tolas from their possession. 

SSP Khakh said that following a tip-off, a team from CIA staff of Jalandhar Rural led by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Verma, under the supervision of SP Investigation Mrs. Jasroop Kaur IPS and DSP Investigation Mr. Sarvanjit Singh, laid a special naka near village Udhowal in the jurisdiction of Police Station Mehtpur and successfully arrested the accused.Upon searching them, one 32-bore pistol, 2 live rounds, and 2 mobile phones were recovered.

Following further interrogation, the police raided another location in Pratapura and recovered 2 more pistols, 23 live rounds, 7 mobile phones, a smartwatch, and 6 tolas of gold ornaments. He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused Rajveer alias Rohit, who is a drug addict, along with his father Raj Kumar, had been actively involved in armed robberies and night-time thefts. 

The accused would enter houses at night and rob passersby at gunpoint, threatening them to hand over mobile phones, cash, and valuables," said SSP Khakh.The SSP Khakh further added  that during interrogation, the accused disclosed they had procured the weapons from one Sharanjit Singh alias Sonu son of Bahadur Singh, resident of Saidpur Jhiri. 

"Police teams are conducting raids to arrest Sharanjit Singh, who is the main supplier of illegal weapons to these criminals," he added.In this regard, a case FIR No. 13 dated 22.01.2025 has been registered under sections 305(A), 309(3) BNS and sections 25-54-59 of the Arms Act at Police Station Mehtpur.
