The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan and Mission Director (MD), Jal Jeevan Mission J&K, Khurshid Ahmad Shah today jointly chaired a meeting of all concerned officers in the Meeting Hall of D. C Office here to review the progress of works under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in district Kupwara.

Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir, Bharam Jyoti; Superintendent Engineer PHE Kupwara, SE PHE Mechanical, DPM JJM, Executive Engineers of PHE Division Kupwara/Handwara, PMGSY, PHE-Mechanical, Ground Water; Consultant JJM, DFOs, AEEs, JEs and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the Mission Director JJM impressed upon all the officers of Jal Shakti Department to take responsibility of the execution of works under JJM, and work with utmost dedication and sincerity to ease the sufferings of the people across the district. 

He stressed upon the officers to gear up the execution of works without further delay so that the people are facilitated with the piped drinking water. The DDC in her address, enjoined upon the officers to make concerted efforts for completion of all ongoing works within the stipulated time frame. 

She highlighted the efforts of the District Administration in resolving various bottlenecks coming during the execution of JJM works and impressed upon the officers to gear up their men and machinery for the completion of the works so that people in large are benefitted under the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission. 

On the occasion, the meeting was apprised through a detailed PowerPoint presentation about the status of various ongoing JJM schemes in the district. Reviewing the progress in execution of civil works, it was informed that out of 226 allotted works pertaining to PHE Divisions of Kupwara, Handwara and SSD Tangdar, 72 works have been completed so far and work is going on the rest of the projects.

It was also informed that 11 Dug wells, 22 Borewells, 3 OHTs, 49 Pipe Network, and 7 SSFP have been completed in PHE Divisions Kupwara/ Handwara and SSD Tangdar. Besides, 20 Mechanical works and 27 Electric Sub stations have also been completed in the district.

Under FHTC, it was informed that 7106 households have been connected during the ongoing financial year 2024-25 out of the targeted 34393 households and efforts are underway to fulfill the target. The Managing Director warned about action against any official showing lethargic approach towards the execution of the developmental works. 

He directed the Executive Engineer PHE Division Handwara to monitor the performance of his subordinates including AEEs, AEs and JEs as frequent complaints regarding different water supply issues are being received by the department majorly from the Handwara division.

The MD fixed timelines on execution of different works and directed the concerned officers to ensure completion of these works within the given timelines. He also took a detailed review of various other schemes sponsored under JKIDFC and NABARD, besides, reviewing lift/gravity, source and filtration based schemes.

He also directed the concerned officers to ensure availability of tankers to the water deficit areas to meet the needs of the people living there till they are connected with piped networks. The Mission Director also directed the Executive Engineers to certify all Har Ghar Jal reported villages as per the guidelines of National Jal Jeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
