The Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, successfully concluded the 5th HPNLU National Moot Court Competition 2024 with its grand valedictory ceremony today, 16th November 2024, held at the university campus.

The event, which brought together bright legal minds from across the country, was inaugurated on 6th November 2024. The preliminary and quarter-final rounds were held virtually, enabling wide participation and accessibility. The semi-final and grand final rounds were conducted in-person at the HPNLU campus today, in a highly anticipated face-off that showcased the prowess of the nation’s finest moot court teams.

The competition witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 15 teams from esteemed law schools across the nation. The final rounds, an epitome of legal excellence and advocacy, were presided over by an esteemed panel of judges comprising eminent legal luminaries, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sandeep Sharma, Judge, Himachal Pradesh High Court, Prof. (Dr.) Sanjay Sindhu, Former Dean and Chairperson, Faculty of Laws, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Mr. Peeyush Verma, President, Himachal Pradesh High Court Bar Association, Mr. Neelkamal Sood, Senior Advocate, Himachal Pradesh High Court, Mr. Vijay Kumar Arora, Senior Advocate, Himachal Pradesh High Court.

The victorious team of the 5th HPNLU National Moot Court Competition 2024 was declared as Government Law College, Mumbai, while the runners-up were Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur In addition, several prestigious individual accolades were conferred to honor exceptional performance.

The final rounds were followed by a Valedictory Ceremony, where Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sandeep Sharma, Judge, Himachal Pradesh High Court, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. His Lordship, in his address, emphasized the importance of fostering critical thinking and innovative legal solutions in the ever-evolving legal landscape. Justice Sharma lauded the spirit of competition and the extraordinary level of skill and dedication demonstrated by the participating teams.

The Welcome Address at the ceremony was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar, HPNLU, who extended heartfelt congratulations to all participants and acknowledged the efforts of the Moot Court Committee (MCC) for orchestrating this prestigious event.

The results of the final rounds were then announced amidst cheers, and the winners were felicitated with trophies and certificates. The report of the event was read by Dr. Ambika, Chairperson of Moot Court Committee, wherein she stated that more than 15 teams had participated in this year’s edition of the event. 

The Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Bharat Barowalia, Convener, Moot Court Committee, HPNLU, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished judges, participants, faculty members, and the organizing team for making the competition a resounding success.

The semi-final rounds, were judged by a panel of distinguished legal professionals, including Dr. Aniket Sharma, Assistant Professor (Law), University Institute of Legal Studies, H.P.U., Mr. Rajeev Rambhatla, Partner, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices, Hyderabad, Mrs. Sheetal Sharma Vyas, Advocate, H.P. High Court, Ms. Parul Negi, Advocate, H.P. High Court, Mr. Mayank Manta, Deputy District Attorney (Town and Country Planning), Mr. Varun Vashishth, Advocate, Shimla District Court.

The event was meticulously organized by Dr. Ambika, Chairperson of the Moot Court Committee, Ms. Avnee Katoch, Ms. Samar Fatima, student co-conveners, and Ms. Suhani Sharma, student secretary, along with the entire dedicated team of the Moot Court Committee (MCC), HPNLU. The seamless execution of this national-level moot court competition reflects the university's commitment to fostering legal education, advocacy skills, and legal research among its students.

The 5th HPNLU National Moot Court Competition 2024 not only provided a platform for budding legal professionals to demonstrate their analytical, research, and advocacy skills, but it also further strengthened HPNLU’s reputation as a premier institution for legal education and research in the country.
