Barnala Begins Fortnight Observance Of Swacchta Hi Sewa

The Barnala district administration today kick started fortnight observance of Swacchta Hi Sewa cleanliness campaign under which special cleanliness awareness and drives will be held in the district from Sep 17 to Oct 2 culminating on the Gandhi Jayanti. The inaugural event of fortnight long observance was started at YS College Handiaya today.

While kick starting the observance, Deputy Commissioner Barnala Mrs Punamdeep Kaur said that community participation was the key to maintain cleanliness and keep our generations safe. Laying emphasis on segregation of waste into dry and wet waste from households, she said that all of us should practice this segregation.

She also called upon the students to be flag bearers of cleaning the area, the nation by practicing the segregation of waste at their homes as well as adopt a household in their neighbourhood. Deputy Commissioner said that healthy practices of not using single use plastic, carrying cloth bags from home and not littering around should be brought in as behavioral changes.

She added that over the next 15 days different awareness activities as well as cleanliness drives will be held in the district to ensure that maximum number of people participate in it. Deputy Commissioner administered oath to the gathering for making their valuable individual contributions in keeping the environment clean.

Earlier, the students of YS College presented a powerful performance in the form of street play (nukkad natak). The students presented follies that huma is committing today by jeopardizing the nature. They depicted a utopian society that should exist to ensure that the future generations are passed on a greener earth.

Students also presented a  group discussion on the way an individual can contribute in cleanliness and environmental protection. National awardee teacher Pankaj Kumar and state awardee Avinash Kumar presented their views on the importance of cleanliness. 

Prominent among others included ADC (G) Latif Ahmed, ADC (D) Satwant Singh, EO nagar council Barnala Vishaldeep Bansal, SP (traffic) Kulwant Singh, Deputy DEO Dr Barjinder Pal Singh, District Employment Generation Officer Navjot Kaur Sandhu, chairman of YS Group Varun Bharti and others.

Later, at the district administrative complex meeting hall, Deputy Commissioner administered oath to the employees of various departments regarding Swachhta. She also issued the schedule of activities that shall be undertake during the fortnight. It includes awareness, cleanliness and plantation.

ADC (D) begins cleanliness drive in city

ADC (D) Satwant Singh began the cleanliness drive in city along with safai sewaks of the municipal council Barnala. Marking the token onset of cleanliness drives that the district will witness in next 15 days, Satwant Singh said that the cleanliness should not be limited to only a specific day but instead should be inculcated as a habit.
