In order to make Punjab a drug free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, SBS Nagar district Police on Tuesday organised an Anti-Drug Marathon in the district to launch state-level 5th Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign. As many as 700 people of different age group participated in the marathon and pledged to keep drugs at bay and live a healthy life. 

The Marathon was commenced at 5:30 am from ITI Ground Nawanshahr and after taking the round of 5 km via Chandigarh road-Chandigarh Chowk- Dr BR Ambedkar Chowk-Sugar Mill- Chandigarh road and culminated at same venue. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) SBS Nagar Dr Mehtab Singh, while addressing the media, said that a special awareness drive is being conducted by the district Police as per the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav and DIG Ludhiana Range Dhanpreet Kaur,  with aim to sensitise people about adverse impacts of drugs and exhort people to live a healthy lifestyle.

Dr Mehtab Singh sensitised participants about the negative impacts of drugs and also motivated them to keep their engagement in educational & sports activities. The SSP further addressed that the intent behind organising a Marathon was to sensitise people about perils of drugs and encourage them to live a healthy life. 

These kinds of initiatives also help in enhancing the engagement of youth in sports activities, he added. He said that the district Police will continue to organise these kinds of initiatives in future also to keep our youth away from drugs by channelising their energy in the right direction. 

He also urged people to give their maximum cooperation in this pivotal fight against drugs. Meanwhile, the boys and girls participants who bagged first, second and third places were felicitated with Prize money and trophies. Besides, medals and certificates were conferred on all the participants.
