The Bangiya Sanskitik Sammilani (Regd.) organised a function at Tagore Theatre, Sector-18, Chandigarh to celebrate the ‘Poila Baisakh’ which marks the Bengali new year. On this occasion, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh, attended the function as the Chief Guest. 

The event included mesmerising Bengali song and a puppet show ‘Bajarbattu’ and cultural performances. The Chief Guest, Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, along with Dr. Amit Bhattacharya, President and Col. Deepak, General Secretary, of Bangiya Sanskritik Sammilani, felicitated and distributed certificates to dignitaries who have been serving the society in the field of eduction since many years and decades in the city. 

The chief guest wished everyone present a ‘Nobo Borso’ and reiterated that this auspicious day celebrated in West Bengal marks the first day of the initial month of Baishakh of the Bengali solar calendar and announces the commencement of the Bengali New Year. Sh. Purhoit said that Bengal was always in front front during the freedom struggle. 

He recalled the famous trio of ‘Lal Bal Pal’, and also shared inspiring instances from the life story of Swami Vivekanand. The Administrator fondly remembered the West Bengal Foundation day celebrated in Punjab Rajn Bhavan and said that Chandigarh is a symbol of Mini India and people of all states and cultures are an integral part of it.
