Earnest efforts are being made to benefit the farmers and horticulturists through various schemes stated Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi while presiding over the review meeting of RWBCIS with Horticulture department and representatives of insurance companies held here today.

He said that the Restructured Weather based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) would prove boon to the horticulturists of the state. He said that the scheme should be based on actual basis. Horticulturists are shifting to high density plants in fruit cultivation in the state.

Present term sheet is made as per standard plants but it should be updated for high density plants. So, horticulturists could be provided with benefits under the scheme according to the real time conditions. Weather based data should also be provided to the farmers to substantiate claims.

The Horticulture Minister directed the horticulture department to initiate tender process at the earliest. He said that this scheme would benefit horticulturists by securing their fruit crops from weather damages. There are three clusters in the state and every cluster includes four districts under the scheme.

Pomegranate, litchi and guava crops will be added for the first time in the scheme. Director Horticulture Sandeep Kadam, Project Director of HP SHIVA Devender Thakur, Joint Director Horticulture Hem Chand Sharma, other senior officers of the horticulture department attended the meeting.
