The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat today chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) to discuss various measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meeting.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use besides cultivation of illicit poppy & cannabis in the district.

The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace and cultivation of illicit poppy & cannabis in the district.The meeting was informed that massive poppy destruction drives have been launched across the district and so-far poppy on hundreds of  kanals of land have been destroyed by the teams of Revenue, Excise, Police and RDD.

The DC  stressed to  step up vigil against drug proliferation, consumption and intensifying awareness against such addictive substances and directed to start a help- line number to receive information from people about drug peddlers from their areas.

He also  instructed the Irrigation &  Flood Control department to launch massive destruction drives to eliminate cannabis from river banks.The DC also instructed the concerned to improve the functioning of the drug de-addiction centre and approves funds of Rs,10 lac for the centre.

It was  informed that during the current month 11 drug peddlers have been arrested and 10 FIRs have been launched.The meeting was attended by ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri; ACR, Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz; ACD, Mohammad Imran; CEO, CMO, Dy-SP HQ,  DO,TSWO and other officers from police and civil administration.
