It is a dream for many users to have blue tick on their social media website but now this dream does not seem difficult if you have enough money to buy it. Recently Twitter has announced that legacy verified accounts will lose their blue tick starting April if they have not paid for the Twitter Blue Subscription. Earlier blue ticks were only granted to people who meet the eligibility criteria but now anyone willing can buy it to get verified.

Twitter posted from its official account which said, “On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.” Users are getting a pop up notification which reads, “This is a legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable.” While some users' notifications read, “This account is verified because it's notable in government, news, entertainment or another designated category”. It is still not revealed how they will deal with the accounts which have ‘Notable’ mentioned on them.

Earlier Twitter used to verify a lot before granting verified badges. It used to verify the individual and the other necessary things like whether they are active, genuine, authentic and about the notable accounts of interest. It was granted free of charge and it was easy to identify the real accounts of the prominent personalities, let it be celebs, businessmen, government or any public figure.

After the takeover of Elon Musk over Twitter, the verification does not mean the same, it has just become a business and a source to earn money. Earlier Twitter gave information about the Titter Blue Subscription Model in which subscription services cost $8 per month for web users while $11 per month for iOS and Android users. It also offers different colours of checkmarks to purchase which will be used to differentiate between the accounts depending upon the designations.

The paid verification badge users will have some benefits that normal users will not have. They can access features including decrease in ads on their timeline, prioritised ranking in conversations, bookmark folders, and the ability to post long tweets, edit tweets, and undo tweets.
