DC Anantnag Dr Basharat Qayoom inaugurates one-day programme on Solid Waste Management at Sadiwara

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr Basharat Qayoom today kickstarted a one day awareness programme on Solid Waste Management at Panchayat Halqa Sadiwara in Block Hiller, here.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Basharat, also chief guest on the occasion said that the Panchayat has made a positive beginning towards creating a waste and garbage free Panchayat. 

He said that the Panchayat has demonstrated that small incentives can be the right nudge for involving people in the process and creating a sense of ownership towards moral duties.

He said that the steps taken by the Panchayat towards management of solid wastes will be replicated in other panchayats. He appreciated the role played by the Sarpanch and BDO in leading people towards making a positive change.

ACD Anantnag and President MC Dooru, speaking on the occasion lauded the Panchayat for their initiatives and appealed people to continue to work towards their endeavour of creating a garbage free panchayat.

BDO Hiller demonstrated the process of waste segregation on the occasion. He also presented the various initiatives taken in the Panchayat for ensuring cleanliness. Sarpanch Sadiwara said that small incentives like rewarding volunteers for collecting wastes and sensitizing people about the objectives of the program have been instrumental in achieving clean surroundings.

The DC distributed rewards among the young volunteers who had played a critical role in creating awareness in the panchayat and participated in the processing of waste. 

He lauded the young youth club members for being active collaborators in driving a positive change. Dr Basharat also inaugurated a fire plug which has been installed by Jal Shakti Department in the Panchayat and inspected the local stream which has been cleaned by the volunteers in recent days.

The DC was accompanied by ACD and ACP, and the event was attended by President MC Dooru, BDO Hiller, Tehsildar Dooru and a large gathering of locals. It is in place to mention that earlier, the DC also reviewed the status of Solid Waste Management works under execution in various ULBs and set deadlines for completion of these works.

He emphasized that capacity creation for processing solid wastes is a critical factor for making Anantnag litter free. The meeting was attended by CEO PDA, ACR, SDM Kokernag and Bijbehara, CEO MC Anantnag and all EOs.
