A seven days Skill Training for Rural Youth (STYR) on “Skilling of Youth in Advanced Walnut and Apple Cultivation for Entrepreneurship Opportunities” started at KVK-Anantnag. The programme is being organized in collaboration with SAMETI-Kashmir, Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Kashmir and sponsored by MANAGE Hyderabad. 

STRY training programmes are aimed at imparting skill based training to Rural youth on Agro and allied based vocational areas to promote employment of rural youth and for creation of skilled manpower to perform farm and non-farm operations.

In the training programme, 28 rural youth (male/female) in the age group of 18-40 years from across the district are participating who shall be given hands on training on different aspects of advancement in walnut and apple cultivation which shall serve as an opportunity for taking walnut/apple cultivation as an enterprise.

Prof. Farooq Ahmad Sheikh, Head, MCRS Sagam SKUAST-K, who was the special guest on the occasion spoke about the importance of conducting such skill development programmes and urged the participants to take full advantage of resources/ technological support from the Kendra.

Earlier, the programme started with a formal welcome address to the participants by Dr. I. A. Mir, Scientist of the Kendra. Dr. Ishtiyaq A. Khan, Head, KVK Anantnag who is also the training coordinator presented the training overview.
