KVK-Gurez on Monday celebrated ‘World Soil Day’ at Kanzalwan, Gurez under the theme “Soils: Where Food Begins”. The programme was attended by a huge gathering of farmers and farm women. BDC Chairman Bagtor, Mukhtar Ahmad Lone interacted with the participants and stressed upon them to take full advantage of the initiatives taken by KVK-Gurez.

He further asked the participants to adhere to the technologies developed by SKUAST-Kashmir which are being promoted and disseminated by KVKs. The incharge head of the Kendra, Dr Bilal Ahmad Bhat gave detailed account of the role of soil health management practices under the current changing climatic scenario, indiscriminate use of chemicals, mismanagement of applied inputs which adversely affect the soil health as is evident from increased land degradation, ground water imbalances, impaired soil health and soil pollution etc.

The other experts of the Kendra also spoke on the occasion about the significance of celebrating this day and provided details of the scientific techniques involved in soil health management.
