Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Monday that the projects such as the prestigious Yadadri Ultra Mega Thermal Power Project with a capacity of 4,000 MW, taken up by the Telangana government, will bring laurels to the entire country.

He said in the interest of the welfare of the farmers and Telangana people, projects like the Yadadri Thermal Power Project are undertaken in the public sector without succumbing to pressure from corporate people.

The chief minister inspected the works of the power plant which is under construction near Veerlapalem at Damaracharla mandal of Nalgonda district. He directed energy minister Jagadish Reddy, Transco and Genco Chairman and Managing Director Prabhakar Rao and BHEL officials to complete the project at the earliest.

Accompanied by ministers, public representatives and officials, CM KCR reached the construction site by two helicopters in the afternoon. He enquired of Transco and Genco and BHEL about the progress in the construction of the plant.

Officials inspected the display boards set up about the power plant. CMD Prabhakar Rao explained to KCR that the two units will be completed by December 2023 and the remaining units will be completed by June 2024.

He told the CM that the construction of the power plant has been delayed for more than a year and a half due to Covid pandemic phase. KCR said that measures should be taken to ensure that the coal reserves required for the operation of the plant are maintained for at least 30 days.

Since the power project is important, the authorities are advised to act pro-actively and take appropriate decisions in the case of other operations including coal reserves. He directed to make arrangements for electricity connectivity from Yadadri plant to all areas including Hyderabad.

KCR enquired about the daily requirement of coal and water supply to the power plant. The chief minister suggested that arrangements should be made to supply Krishna water for water needs of the project.

KCR said that Damaracharla area has been selected for the power plant with an intention of providing employment to the people of the erstwhile Nalgonda district. He ordered the construction of a township for about 10,000 employees working in the power plant.

He suggested that 100 acres should be acquired specially for staff quarters and other facilities. Fifty acres will be allocated for a sports complex.
