M.Phil., Ph.D. and PDF Scholars from across the country are participating in this workshop to learn modern Research Methodology techniques for conducting quality research.Bathinda, November 21: The Department of Education at the Central University of Punjab organized an inaugural ceremony of ICSSR-sponsored ten-day course (21-30 November) on Research Methodology in Social Sciences for M.Phil, Ph.D. and PDF Scholars across the country on Monday. Prof. Jagbir Singh, the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University, presided over this programme.

The Chief Guest and the Special Guest of this programme were Prof. Kapil Kapoor, Former Professor of English, Concurrent Professor, Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University; and Dr. Uma Shankar Pachauri, General Secretary, Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal, respectively.

In the beginning of the programme, Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, welcomed the esteemed guests and participants. In his address, he stressed that research scholars should carefully select their research topic and research methodology to find meaningful solutions to societal issues and to accomplish sustainable development goals.

Hon'ble Chancellor Prof. Jagbir Singh stated in his presidential address that young researchers should be aware that data analysis can sometimes produce inaccurate results if areas of experience and domains of knowledge are not taken into account when developing research methodology.

To establish authority, a researcher needs to dwell deeply into his or her discipline and understand the overall context of the problem before formulating appropriate methodology. The Chief Guest, Prof. Kapil Kapoor, stated that western researchers have always tried to establish their supremacy of their language, culture and thoughts over Indian languages and our knowledge system, which are based on observations, and which have benefited the world with ways to adopt sustainable lifestyles.

He stressed that in the Indic civilization, knowledge is transferred through oral forms of communication and the researchers need to allow suitable opportunities for respondents to express themselves to understand their situation through the observation method.

The Special Guest, Dr. Uma Shankar Pachauri emphasized that the ancient Indian knowledge system guides us to continuously search for knowledge and live in harmony with each other while maintaining our individual identities. He urged researchers to use a Bharat-Centric research methodology that is based primarily on observations and imperial evidence.

The inaugural ceremony also features the release of a book entitled "Indic Civilization and its Dharma Traditions," authored by Prof. Jagbir Singh published by Chetna Publication. This programme also provided a platform for academic collaborations under which the officials of Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology, Longowal and Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Bathinda signed MoU with Research for Resurgence Foundation, Nagpur in the presence of esteemed guests.

At the start of the programme Dr. Shankar Lal Bika, Course Director, HoD, Dept. of Education, introduced the programme theme.
