The Central Instrumentation Laboratory at the Central University of Punjab is hosting a workshop titled 'Hands-on Training on Sophisticated Instrumentation Techniques: Spectroscopy, Chromatography & Advanced Microscopy' from February 29th, 2024, to March 7th, 2024. This event is fully sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), New Delhi, under the Accelerate Vigyan Scheme. The inaugural session of the event took place at the Central University of Punjab last week, with Prof. Saranjit Singh (Ex-Professor, NIPER Mohali) gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.

During the inaugural session, Prof. Ramkrishna Wusirika, DIA, articulated that the aim of this workshop is to equip participants with advanced knowledge on state-of-the-art sophisticated instrumentation techniques, including spectroscopy, chromatography, & advanced microscopy.

He emphasized that this event presents a unique opportunity for participants to gain familiarity with the intricate details of instrumentation related to spectroscopy, chromatography, and microscopy. Incharge CIL, Prof. Raj Kumar, mentioned that this workshop will provide hands-on training to 25 Postgraduate Students and Research Scholars working in multidisciplinary, transdisciplinary, and translational research.

Participants from various parts of the country are attending this program to learn about spectroscopic (FTIR, 600MHz NMR, AAS, ICP-MS), chromatographic (UPLC, HPTLC, GC-MS), bioanalytical (Flow Cytometer), and imaging techniques (Confocal Microscope, Fluorescence Microscope, Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope), including High-Speed Ultra-Centrifugation in life science research, radioactivity, quality control, and good laboratory practices techniques. The program also includes data analysis, interpretation, and inferences.

Chief Guest Prof. Saranjit Singh commended the CIL staff for organizing the event and encouraged participants, stating that the knowledge gained during the workshop will enable them to conduct quality research using sophisticated equipment. He also delivered a talk on stability testing and hyphenated instrumentation, emphasizing the importance of various hyphenation techniques like LC-NMR, FT-IR, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS in drug validation.

Prof. Anjana Munshi, Director IQAC, CUPB, highlighted that various departments of CUPB have previously organized similar workshops, proving to be beneficial for nearby researchers and scholars, especially those looking to utilize high-end instrumentation related to their field of study.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. J.N. Babu, Convener CIL. Participants are currently receiving hands-on training on CIL Equipment from faculty and staff members. The valedictory session of this workshop will be organized on Thursday.
