As part of weeklong celebrations under 69th All India Cooperative Week, a Mega event was today organized by the Department of Cooperatives Shopian in collaboration with the Cooperative Societies of District at S B G M Paramedical Institute Arhama, Shopian.

Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Manzoor Hussain was the chief guest at the event.The main theme of the 69th All India Cooperative Week is “Role of Cooperative in fostering innovation, promoting startups and technology upgradation” and the main objective of the celebrations was to highlight the achievement of the Cooperative Sector and to chalk out the future strategy for strengthening the Cooperative movement.

The Deputy Registrar highlighted the role of Cooperatives in the socio-economic upliftment and emphasized on the need for formation of new Cooperatives in different fields by involving more and more unemployed youth.

Speaking on the occasion, ADDC said to make Cooperative movement strong, more innovative ideas need to be explored under its banner, be that in agriculture, horticulture, apiculture, floriculture etc. so that there is economic upliftment of society as well as employment generation.

He said Youth should come forward to start cooperative units as investments made in such societies have a higher success rate.He also briefed and educated the cooperators regarding various schemes where general masses can take advantage and can get benefitted from these Cooperative schemes like FPO's/ Dairy/ Mushroom/ Pickles/ Vegetables Cooperatives etc.

The ADDC said there is huge potential in establishment of Food processing units and stressed departments to organise more such awareness programmes at micro level so that maximum benefits are reared by the public.

He also stressed the Department for imparting training at block level especially to panchayat secretaries so that they can generate door to door awareness about the cooperative movement and its long term benefits.

Several other speakers also spoke on the occasion and apprised the gathering about the benefits under various Cooperative schemes.On the occasion, 35 new registration certificates were distributed among the newly registered cooperatives (FPOs) in dairy, agriculture, Fisheries and Sheep sector and an appreciation certificate to Co-operative Fair Price Shop Shopian.

Among others, the function was attended by the representatives of agriculture allied departments, Assistant Registrars, field functionaries and members of Cooperative Institutions across the district.
