District Administration Ramban today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with national fervour and enthusiasm to pay rich tributes to the father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi Ji besides launching a cleanliness campaign on this occasion in different parts of   the district. 

In a function held at Chanderkote, Deputy Commissioner, Mussarat Islam flagged off an awareness rally, comprising students of Government and Private schools, here from JP Gate. The rally passed through the main parts of the area and calumniated at local Government High School.

The DC along with CPO, Dr. Kasturi Lal, ACP Swarn Singh, ACD Ashok Singh Katoch, BDO Muneer Hussain, Sarpanch  and officers/officials of different s departments also took part in ‘Swachhata  Abhiyan’. The participants reiterated the commitment to keep their surroundings  neat and clean besides improving the green cover on the earth.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC recalled the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom struggle and described him as a great visionary. They said that Gandhi ji was an apostle of non-violence and a staunch peace lover. 

“The United Nations has declared this day as International Non Violence Day, thus recognizing contributions and philosophy of Gandhi ji which is more relevant today” he added.The DC also advised the students to utilize their time in constructive activities besides taking part in curricular and extracurricular activities to become a responsible citizen by following the footprints and teachings of Rashtrapita Mahatma Gandhi. 

Similar functions were also held at Sub-division Tehsil and institutions levels across the district.
