MY YOUTH MY PRIDE : District Reasi Cricket championship commences

In continuation to the multiple sports activities being organised across J&K under the My Youth My Pride campaign, a cricket tournament was inaugurated today in the district Reasi.Thirty two teams drawn from the different areas of the district are participating in the event organised  to explore the local talent. 

The tournament was inaugurated by DDC Chairman Saraf Singh, who encouraged the players to work hard in their respective sports disciplines and applauded the Sports Council for organizing sports activities in the district at such a large scale.

Impressing upon the youth of the area to take an active part in sports activities for fitness and bring discipline in their lives, Singh also said that sports is an elixir for the healthy body.Rakesh Puri, Physical Director, Government Degree College Rajouri, was the chief guest. 

Matches were officiated by Salim, General Secretary District TT Association Reasi. Players drawn from different educational institutions of the district are participating in the event. The event culminated with the draw for the semi-finals.

The Table Tennis competition is underway in the sports stadium Rajouri in which players from different schools and colleges are participating.Meanwhile, 45th District Jammu Table Tennis Championship is being played in the Indoor Sports Complex Jammu. 

In the ongoing competitions Samar and Ahaan sailed into finals of the U11 boys category, while Nitya Arora and Yasha qualified for the cadet girls final. In the veteran men category, Vasu got the better of Jamwal while Sunil Jain beat Professor Vaid. 

In the other matches played in the same category Jeet Raj won against Rajinder and Amit defeated Purshotam.The event is organized by J&K Sports Council in coordination with J&K Table Tennis Association under My Youth My Pride initiative.

In the meantime, the Kabaddi Championship concluded at Sports Stadium Kathua yesterday. Twenty teams participated in the championship. Government Degree College Kathua won the men’s title while Kathua Kabaddi club claimed the women's title. 

In the other categories, Gujjar Hostel team won the U16 boy’s title and Stadium-XI won the girl's title.Dr. J.S. Soodan Physical Director of G.D.C. Kathua was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Soodan encouraged players  to work hard and stay away from the menace of drugs. 

Manager Sports Stadium Kathua, Baljinder Pal Singh also interacted with participants and congratulated all the participants for showcasing their talent.The matches were officiated by Sunita Devi, Yog Raj Sharma, Omkar Singh, Shakti Gupta, Rohit Sharma, Mitalli, Farhat Gulzar, and Vinod Kumar

A table Tennis competition was also organized in the Indoor Sports Hall of Ramnagar in district Udhampur. Around 20 players comprising of boys and girls participated in the competition.The CDPO Ramnagar, Nawaz Shareef inaugurated the event in presence of Vinod Verma and Naveen Sharma, Manager Subash Stadium Udhampur.

The matches were officiated by Vishal Modi and Vinod Sharma."Apart from learning the art of the game and sports, the final objective of preparing an Individual to acquire team spirit and leadership qualities lessen the influence in the directions of crime and drugs are the values unfurled from the sports competitions" said Harvinder Singh IAS ADC Jammu while attending Gatka competitions as chief guest in M.A Stadium Jammu. 

Chief guest was flanked by Rakesh Kumar JKAS, who graced the occasion as guest of honour. Rakesh Kumar laid stress for promotion of traditional games as these are meaningful and enriching in values. He also appreciated the role of the Sports Council in promotion of sports round the clock and reaching to the far off regions of the union territory with the mission of ‘sports for all’. 

Earlier, Ashok Singh Sports Officer Jammu, in his welcome address gave a gist of Gatka.Dr. Manmeet Singh chairman of the J&K GATKA association expressed his gratitude to J&K administration and the Sports Council for bringing Gatka under the umbrella of special sports initiative "My Youth My Pride '' activities calendar.

The Volleyball and Tug of War competitions were also held in the Sports Stadium, Doda. Six teams each participated in both the competitions. Boys Higher Secondary School Doda won the Volleyball title while Alpha Public School Doda claimed the Tug of War competition. 

Principal of BHSS Doda Ruby was the special guest on the occasion. Both the competitions were monitored by coachs duo of Manmeet Kaur and Rameez Malik.The events are organized by J&K Sports Council under the special sports initiative of "My Youth My Pride" which is aimed to tap the talent and take sports to nook and corner of the union territory of J&K.
