VC NCSC visits Baramulla; reviews functioning of National Commission

Vice Chairman, National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC), Arun Halder, today visited Baramulla and reviewed functioning of the Commission in the district.He elaborately highlighted the role of NCSC towards promoting the welfare and interests of SC populace through educational, social and economic empowerment.

Arun Haldar said that scheduled castes have suffered educational and socio-economic backwardness in the past but now with the keen intervention of both the governments various measures have been initiated for their overall development.

Briefing media in a press conference, Arun Haldar said that NCSC is a constitutional body which has a mandate to safeguard the interests of this weaker section of the society. He added that the Commission has created a 24*7 helpline on its website while urging people to come forward for reporting any of their issues concerning their welfare and development.

Regarding educational uplift of scheduled castes, Arun Haldar said that adequate scholarships are being provided to the students belonging to the community to ensure that education is not denied due to the poor financial conditions of their families. He further said that these scholarships are being provided at pre matric and post matric level besides for education abroad.
