The District Election Office Shopian today held an interactive session with teachers at Mini Secretariat here.Chief Education Officer (CEO), Mushtaq Ahmad who is also the Nodal Officer for SVEEP programme in the district was the Chief Guest on the occasion.The teachers among whom many were BLOs were briefed about the upcoming special Summary Revision 2022 of the Electoral Roll in the UT of J&K.

During the session, teachers were informed about the SVEEP activities and methods and means for engaging the masses for greater participation in the electoral roll. A number of speakers who spoke on the occasion highlighted the educational as well as the electoral value of the SVEEP programme.

The teachers were briefed about the role and responsibilities of Booth Level Officers, (BLOs) who are the ground workers of the process .They were also briefed about the civic responsibilities of the masses in the process.CEO Shopian in his address to the teachers said that he has nominated nodal officers from institutions of secondary school level and above for coordinating with election authorities in organizing events and programmes of the SVEEP.

He also urged teachers to act as role models in educating the masses about values of participative democracy. He said Voter literacy is a key to successful democracy for which we all need to put our hands together.
