District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today reviewed the functioning of the Handloom, Handicrafts and Floriculture departments here at a meeting of the concerned officers.While reviewing the functioning of the Handloom and Handicrafts sector, the DDC took stock of the progress regarding the loan cases sanctioned and sponsored so far.

The skills training imparted to weavers and registration of weavers in the district was also reviewed.The DDC stressed on the need to generate mass awareness about the schemes launched by the Handicrafts and Handloom sector.

“There is an impending need to educate the Weavers and Artisans about the skill up-gradation and soft lending schemes to enable them to improve the quality of their products and compete in the market” the DC said. 

The DDC also called for GI tagging of the Rajouri district’s Chikri wood craft.Taking stock of the functioning of the Floriculture sector, he asked to sensitise farmers and youth about the huge scope of flower cultivation on a commercial scale. 

The youth need to be encouraged to take advantage of the viable and flourishing Floriculture sector, he asserted.The meeting also held threadbare discussion on the maintenance of gardens and parks, proposals for development of new parks in the town and other related matters.

It was informed that there are two parks in the district including Children Park and Brigadier Usman Park at Bella colony. The DDC also asked to set up open Gym facilities for the youth at Children Park and directed the concerned officer from the Floriculture Department to formulate a DPR for the establishment of a Tulip Garden.The DDC also directed the AFO to identify a suitable site for park facility in the vicinity of Rajouri town
