The Social Welfare Department, in Collaboration with District Administration Ramban, today organised a mega event to mark National Senior Citizen Day, here at Community Hall, Maitra Ramban.Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Mussarat Islam was the Chief Guest, while President Municipal Council, Ramban, Sunita Sumbria, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kamal Zadoo, District Social Welfare Officer, Rahul Gupta, District Yoga Coordinator, Dr. Masood Zargar, PRIs, Head Master, Shaheed Lance Naik Ranjit Singh Government High School, Gam, Raj Singh Raju, prominent and senior citizens also attended the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner sensitized the youth about the need to care for their parents, grandparents and elderly persons in general by engaging with them in different acts of kindness. He advised them to spend time with elderly persons as much as possible to give them company besides learning from their experiences.
The DC further advised the senior citizens to engage themselves in different social as well as professional activities, besides taking care of their health, feelings and wishes.Meanwhile, the Department of Indian System of Medicines (AYUSH) organized a Yoga session and free medical camp besides providing free AYUSH medicines to senior citizens.
An interactive session followed during which the CMO and District Yoga Coordinator provided information and tips to the Senior Citizens for staying healthy and managing stress.The DSWO sensitised the participants about different financial and social assistance schemes launched by the Government to help the senior citizens through the Social Welfare Department and other stakeholder Departments.
Highlighting the role of younger generations in providing care and security to the elders, the DSWO said that they are the backbone and knowledge house of the society.Later, a cultural programme was also presented by the local artists to entertain the participants.Similar programme was also held by the Social Welfare Department at Banihal.
