The District Social Welfare Office Budgam organized a daylong programme to celebrate National Senior Citizen Day at Behishte Zehra Park, DC Office Budgam. The programme was attended by 38 Senior Citizens of District Budgam, Officers and officials of Social Welfare Department and elderline.

 NGO Islamic Relief and Research Trust Kashmir provided basic information regarding establishment of Senior Citizen Home at District Budgam. The said home shall start its operation from Ist of September 2022, The home shall provide residential facilities to Old Aged, Homeless Senior Citizens of District Budgam.

District Budgam for the 1st time will have the facility for the retired and Old Aged persons who need day care, Medical facilities, recreational facilities along with boarding and lodging under one roof. The homeless and needy Old Aged beneficiaries will be provided with all facilities free of cost.

The home shall shelter 25 Old Aged persons at a time. It will provide nutritious food, medicine, physiotherapy facility to the inmates. Recreation in the shape of indoor games and outdoor exercises, Picnics, Excursions etc and visiting facilities with relatives also be provided.

The home shall be a real home away from home, all the facilities like health care, clothing, nutrition and bedding shall be maintained by the Department of Social Welfare.The ultimate aim of the Senior Citizen home is to provide safe shelter/ home for the persons who are unable to find a healthy environment and safe living space.

The Senior Citizen day was celebrated with zeal and exuberance. There was interaction with NGO’s and Senior Citizens, they were provided information regarding their rights by field officer from the elder line. 

They were informed about various Government schemes such as ISSS, NSAP etc provided by the Social Welfare Department and how they can avail and apply for these services.This day shall lead us towards Senior Citizen friendly District; a safer and favourable environment to our prestigious Senior Citizens who are integral part of our Society.

Beaides, free legal aid , counselling and assistance for property court cases shall also be provided to them in collaboration with DLSA Budgam.A free health check up and medicine distribution camp was also organised by DSWO under the supervision of Dr Syed Farhana Asgar, on the same day , in collaboration with Heath department Budgam.
