The Punjab government has set an ambitious target to plant 2 crore saplings in the current Monsoon season, for which the department of forest and wild life has fully geared up by making all kind of arrangements.Today in a meeting of the Department of Forest and Wild Life, the Department officials have informed the Minister in charge Chuuni Lal Bhagat that Government, Institutional, Panchayat and other vacant pieces of land have already been identified for plantation after consultation with the concerned departments, Besides that the officials have also said that the department nurseries have produced more than 2.50 crore saplings for the year 2014-15. The Minister has asked the officers to specially depute the employees to take care of saplings, keeping in view the hot season.  Calling upon the General Public, especially educational Institutions, Religious Bodies to come forward to assist the Green Punjab Mission, Mr. Bhagat said that the department would facilitate people by providing free saplings and advised by department experts, who want to plant saplings in their own land.Mr. Bhagat said that Punjab government has committed to increase area under forest from existing 8 to 15 percent till 2020 and to attain this target state government is on the advance stage to prepare a project in collaboration with Japan for technical guidance.Mr. Vishavjeet Khanna, Secretary Forest and Wild Life informed the Minister about progress of various projects. Prominent among others who were present in the meeting are Mr. M.P.Roy, principal conservator of forest and other officials of the department.
